Eating our way through the west

Josh and I just got back from a trip to San Fran and Sonoma; we had a blast! One of our main goals while we were there was to try some grub people have been raving about. We went everywhere that we planned, and here's a review:

SF meat company
After getting up at 4:45 on our first day there, being done with a run by 7, and oatmeal by 8, we were totally starving by the time we got to the Ferry Bldg. at 9:30. Luckily for our massive stomachs, the San Francisco meat company already started serving their pulled beef and pulled pork sandwiches on sourdough bread (a staple of SF). We went the extra mile and asked for a fried egg on top of the beef sammy (a much better idea for bfast hour) and it was delicious. We got a high 5 from a local for our creation. A little too bbq-y for me, but Josh would bathe in bbq sauce.

Papalote
Apparently I was right near here about 2 years ago when I visited James and Lisa, but after seeing these burritos on a Throwdown episode, it definitely entered our radar. We were the first ones there for lunch at 11:30, and of course we tried the "triple threat" burrito (the biggest and baddest), which even with splitting, was massive. It had chicken, beef, and prawns (I gave mine to Josh cause trying not to eat shellfish), and an amazing mix of black beans, rice, home made guacamole and salsa, and vegetables. Unlike impostors, every single bite had a mixture of every ingredient, like the put it all in a bowl first, mixed it up with the fixings, and then wrapped it up. Coupled with home made killer salsa and chips, it was quite a meal -- even a little too much in my opinion. Josh took it all down, but it was a little heavy for me (I know, hard to believe.)

Ike's
We heard about Ike's on a man vs. food special, and it looked like the most well-constructed sandwich ever - and super creative. After walking 2 hours from Golden Gate park literally straight up a Hill, we finally came to the promise land, only to wait in line for 45 minutes then devour our sandwiches on the stoop of a local library. Erica got her classic turkey, but Perry, Josh and I split 4 sammies -beef meatball, roast beef, teryaki chicken with wasabi mayo, and the classic cheesesteak. What's so special about those sammies? Well, every sandwich comes smothered and baked with Ike's special sauce, which is like a garlic mayo, along with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, and pickles. The combo is amazing.

Boulevard
This is a SF favorite of mine, so I took Josh for our first night in SF. We shared a mushroom royalty dish for a starter, which was amazing --all different kinds with a truffle foam. Josh got a pork chop that was seared then baked, and I got so much joy watching him eat it. My fish was actually dryer than I like, but I will forgive since I have had a couple great meals here.

The Estate
Erica, Perry, Josh and I went here for a 4th of July bbq, and although I was nervous about it being a buffet, the spread was delicious. Proteins included salmon, bbq chicken drumsticks and thighs, and beef tips. Sides were grilled vegetables, corn salad, and bakes potatoes with all the fixins. Their drinks were probably more noteworthy; they made watermelon and lime water by infusing fresh fruit in the canasters, then mixed with either vodka or tequila. Local beers and wines were offered.
